Directions to Sea Dunes J-5

From the north:

I-64 East from Richmond

There are two ways to go once you reach the Newport News/Norfolk/Chesapeake area.

*      You can continue on I-64 East to Norfolk until you see the sign for 168 S/Elizabeth City/Nags Head.  This is a little shorter, but tends to have more traffic and backups with the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.

*      The other way is to get on I-664 East – and crossing over the James River on the Monitor Merrimack Bridge/Tunnel.  You’ll get back on I-64 towards Chesapeake and continue until you see signs for Hwy 168/Elizabeth City/Nags Head

Part of hwy 168 is a toll road.  You’ll see signs just south of Chesapeake stating “LAST EXIT BEFORE TOLL.”  If you want to save $2 (you can buy a soda and snack at the Border Station!), get off on the last exit before the toll and follow 168 business until it links back up with 168 bypass.  You’ll be just north of the border.

Hwy 168 East runs into and becomes Hwy. 158

You will cross a bridge to get onto the Outer Banks  (see shortcut below)

You'll pass Food Lion (on left) and WalMart, Seamark Foods, and Home Depot on the right. Continue on Hwy. 158 towards Manteo.

Watch for mile post marker #4.

Our complex is at MP 4 1/2.

When you see 7-11, get in the middle/turning lane.

Look for Daniel's Homeport Furnishings on the right and Sunburn Grill on the right.

Our drive is directly across from Daniel's Homeport and just after Sunburn.

*The sign says Sea Dunes. (See above).

At night there are two round lights at the entrance.

At the "T", go right.

Follow the road around (road veers left) and it will go right into building "J".

Our unit is the second from the right - #5

Unload and have fun!

From the Manteo area:

Look for the Mile Post Markers. We are at 4 1/2.

Once you pass MP 5, be in the right lane.

After you pass Stack 'Em High (Pancake Restaurant), look for our entrance.

Follow above directions at *

Shortcut:  I have found a shortcut that I feel will save you much time!  After you cross over the bridge from the mainland (coming from the north), go to the 3rd stoplight and turn right onto The Woods/ Woods Road.  There is a school on the far left corner where you turn.  You will continue past a wildlife refuge and great bike trails.  At the stopsign, turn left onto Kitty Hawk Drive.  This will bring you out next to the 7-11 on 158.  At the 7-11, turn right and immediately get into the left lane, as you'll turn left into our complex directly after Sunburn Grill.  This cuts out about 4 miles of Hwy 158.  The WalMart is about 1/2 mile past where you turn right onto The Woods, for your information.  This shortcut bypasses WalMart and much more.
